Sensitive Content

In 2017, the nude statue of the god of the sea, Neptune, has been one of those censored by Facebook's new policies on nudity, after an Italian art historian was instructed to remove it from her website.

Elisa Barbari, an Italian writer, was the user who uploaded the photograph of the iconic statue of one of the cities with the most tourists in Italy. According to the portal "The Telegraph" this image was to be used for a publication of stories and curiosities of Bologna.

The Italian explained that the Facebook team notified her that the image had not been approved because it does not "comply with advertising guidelines" by presenting "a photo with explicit sexual content that shows the body or shows parts of the body without being necessary" .

Barbari criticized the rigidity of Facebook filters, as it does not allow the use of nude photos or videos, even if they are for artistic or educational purposes. From that my Sensitive Content Project was born, which talks about the censorship of male bodies on social networks.

My project is about Naked Roman Gods with a critique of the future of art. So will we see art in the future? Works with censorship on the genitals? Eros, Neptune, Mercury ... with censorship.

The work is composed of a children's toy made of magnetic cubes, in the form of a sculpture. The work is interactive and may or may not be censored.

This work was launched at the 2021 JustMad art fair
